Harga tiket konser Dream Theater Jakarta, 21 April 2012 | Di mana beli tiket konser Dream Theater? | Meski tidak sepopuler Metalica atau AX7, Dream Theater mempunyai fans yang sangat besar di Indonesia. Apalagi bagi para ‘pemuda’ yang masih kinyis-kinyis, hehe…. Kalau umur anda sekarang belasan tahun mungkin anda belum atau tidak mengenal band progressive rock legendaris ini. Atau jangan-jangan anda pecinta boy-girl-band ala Korea begitu…, wkwkwk. Pastilah anda tidak akan peduli dengan berita konser pertama Dream Theater di Indonesia yang akan diselenggarakan 21 April 2012 nanti. Lirik Album A Dramatic Turn of Events | Tanggal 13 September 2011 kemarin album baru Dream Theater – A Dramatic Turn of Events akhirnya benar-benar diluncurkan. Saya sudah mendapatkan seluruh track-nya.
Belum sepenuhnya paham dengan album ini sih, tapi paling tidak Beneath The Surface sudah menjadi lagu wajib yang tiap hari saya dengarkan. Sambil sedikit ikut menyanyi, hehe…
Secara umum album baru Dream Theater ini agak beda. Rasa dari gebukan drum Mike Mangini bagi saya agak gimana gitu, alias tetap berharap seandainya Mike Portnoy yang menggebuk pasti akan berbeda hasilnya.
Hal lain yang saya rasakan adalah effect gitar yang dipakai Petrucci agak lebih ‘clean’ di beberapa lagu. Rasanya seperti dia berusaha memasukkan lebih banyak rasa blues di album ini.

Profil Mike Mangini; Pengganti Mike Portnoy di Dream Theater

Setelah mendengarkan On The Backs of Angels; lagu barunya Dream Theater dari album A Dramatic Turn of Events yang akan rilis 13 September nanti, mau tidak mau saya jadi memperhatikan permainan drum si Mike Mangini, yang secara resmi sejak April lalu, menjadi pengganti Mike Portnoy.  Beda dikit sih, ‘rasa’nya memang agak berbeda. Tapi sejauh ini saya suka, hehe…
Kemudian saya juga jadi kepingin tahu, siapa sih si Mike Mangini itu. Berikut ini profil Mike Mangini. Beum sempat saya edit, ini masih hasil langsung kerjanya Google translate. Aslinya bisa anda baca di Mike Mangini’s Profile.
Mike Mangini (lahir April 18, 1963 di Newton, Massachusetts) adalah drummer yang terkenal untuk karyanya sebagai artis sesi yang telah bermain untuk Annihilator, Extreme dan Steve Vai. Dia adalah seorang guru di Berklee College of Music di Boston dan diselenggarakan lima catatan Drummer dunia Tercepat di Dunia.
Mike Mangini mulai bermain drum ketika ia berusia lima tahun. Dia akan berlatih enam sampai sepuluh jam sehari dan pada saat ia berusia sembilan tahun dia sudah menirukan pertunjukan Buddy Rich. Oleh sekolah tinggi, ia tampil di band sekolah dan berpartisipasi dalam bergengsi All-County, Semua Negara, dan semua ansambel Timur Amerika Serikat.
Setelah lulus dari Sekolah Menengah Atas di Waltham 1981, Mangini mengesampingkan studi musiknya untuk mengejar Ilmu Komputer utama di Bentley College. Setelah lulus Mike mulai perangkat lunak pemrograman untuk program rudal Patriot. Pada saat yang sama, ia bekerja pada sebuah program yang mempelajari hubungan antara otak dan tubuh manusia. Kedua pengalaman telah membantu Mike dalam pengembangan sistem Rhythm Pengetahuan belajarnya.
Pada tahun 1987, Mangini mencetak satu pertunjukan pertama 'high profile' - bermain drum untuk Band Berlin Rick di Boston, di mana ia bekerja dengan bassis Phillip Bynoe (yang kemudian akan pergi untuk bekerja dengan Mike di sesi untuk Perjalanan Steve Perry dan lebih terutama selama waktu Mike di band Steve Vai). Dia juga mengajar drum pribadi di Boston selama ini.
Pada tahun 1991, Mangini mulai bekerja untuk sebuah band thrash metal yang bernama Annihilator. Mike dilakukan pada drum pada beberapa lagu untuk album studio, Mengatur Dunia on Fire. Dia melanjutkan untuk tur dengan band dalam mendukung album ini sampai 1994. Pada tahun 1994 ia diminta untuk bermain dengan Extreme band, menggantikan drummer asli Paul Geary. Mike Mangini telah berteman dengan mencatat Nuno Bettencourt Ekstrim gitaris sejak 1980-an. Waktu di Ekstrim termasuk merekam beberapa lagu untuk tahun 1995 album mereka, Menunggu Untuk bagian lucunya. Selama waktu ini, ia juga membuat penampilan di The Late Show bersama David Letterman. Sementara tur dengan Ekstrim pada tahun 1995, Mike direkam lagu untuk Nuno pada mesin 4-track tape. Lagu-lagu berakhir di "Schizophonic" setelah Nuno meninggalkan Ekstrim untuk mengejar karir solo.
Setelah Ekstrim dilarutkan dalam 1996, Mike diinformasikan melalui drumer Jonathan Mover gitaris Steve Vai audisi drumer untuk band live. Mike berhasil lulus audisi untuk band Steve Vai dan pindah ke Los Angeles.
Dari akhir 1996 hingga awal 2000, Mangini adalah drummer sangat dihormati ensemble hidup Vai, yang juga termasuk bassis Phillip Bynoe, gitar penyihir Mike Keneally dan (dalam 2000) gitaris Dave Weiner. Mike juga mencatat beberapa track drum Steve Fire Garden dan album Ultrazone.
Setelah suspensi awal kaki Amerika Selatan Tour Ultrazone pada tahun 2000, Mangini kembali ke rumah untuk Boston dan mulai mengajar di Berklee College sebagai profesor. Dia mulai bekerja dengan mantan vokalis Gary Cherone Ekstrim dan bassist Pat Badger dalam Suku singkat, band Yehuda. Dia juga terus bekerja dengan Dale Bozzio (sebelumnya dari band gelombang baru, Orang Hilang), dan dicatat beberapa catatan lebih. Di antara catatan-catatan ini merupakan penghormatan Rush rekaman (berjudul "Pembagian") dan sebuah album full-length kedua dengan Annihilator berjudul "Semua untuk Anda." Dia juga merekam lagu-lagu untuk artis Sal DiFusco, Bill Lonero dan Chris Emerson.
Pada tahun 2005, ia menerima posisi penuh waktu mengajar di Berklee College of Music di Boston dan hari ini ia adalah anggota fakultas terkemuka di sekolah perkusi departemen.
Pada tahun 2007 Mike melakukan Metal album by Annihilator.
Salah satu proyek saat ini Mike adalah Stix n’ Chix.
Sejak April 2011, dia drummer dari Dream Theater metal band amerika progresif, dalam penggantian dari Mike Portnoy.

Inilah Press Release Mike Portnoy Yang Keluar Dari Dream Theater

Dream Theater bagi saya secara pribadi adalah band progressive yang sangat bagus. Dan Mike Portnoy adalah salah satu drummer terbaik yang pernah ada. Saya juga sangat terkejut membaca berita dan akhirnya mendapat Press Release dari Mike Portnoy sehubungan dengan keluarnya dia dari Dream Theater. Sungguh saya sangat menyayangkan. Namun dari press release ini terlihat juga bahwa dia sudah memikirkan baik buruk dan sudah berupaya supaya keputusannya ini tidak membuat fans Dream Theater kecewa.
Beberapa orang mengaitkan keluarnya Mike Portnoy dari Dream Theater ini dipengaruhi oleh semakin dekatnya Mike dengan band Avenged Seven Fold, sejak mereka konser bareng tahun lalu. Mike sendiri mengakui kedekatannya dengan AX7. Namun sampai sekarang belum ada pengumuman resmi apakah Mike Portnoy akan menggantikan posisi drummer AX7 yang sudah meninggal itu.

I am about to write something I never imagined I'd ever write:
After 25 years, I have decided to leave Dream Theater....the band I founded, led and truly loved for a quarter of a century.
To many people this will come as a complete shock, and will also likely be misunderstood by some, but please believe me that it is not a hasty decision...it is something I have struggled with for the last year or so....
After having had such amazing experiences playing with Hail, Transatlantic and Avenged Sevenfold this past year, I have sadly come to the conclusion that I have recently had more fun and better personal relations with these other projects than I have for a while now in Dream Theater...
Please don't misinterpret me, I love the DT guys dearly and have a long history, friendship and bond that runs incredibly deep with them...it's just that I think we are in serious need of a little break...
Dream Theater was always my baby...and I nurtured that baby every single day and waking moment of my life since 1985...24/7, 365...never taking time off from DT's never-ending responsibilites (even when the band was "off" between cycles)... working overtime and way beyond the call of duty that most sane people ever would do for a band...
But I've come to the conclusion that the DT machine was starting to burn me out...and I really needed a break from the band in order to save my relationship with the other members and keep my DT spirit hungry and inspired.
We have been on an endless write/record/tour cycle for almost 20 years now (of which I have overseen EVERY aspect without a break) and while a few months apart from each other here & there over the years has been much needed and helpful, I honestly hoped the band could simply agree with me to taking a bit of a "hiatus" to recharge our batteries and "save me from ourselves"...
Sadly, in discussing this with the guys, they determined they do not share my feelings and have decided to continue without me rather than take a breather...I even offered to do some occasional work throughout 2011 against my initial wishes, but it was not to be...
While it truly hurts for me to even think of a Dream Theater without Mike Portnoy (hell, my father named the band!!), I do not want to stand in their way...so I have decided to sacrifice myself and simply leave the band so as to not hold them back against their wishes....
Strangely enough, I just read an interview that I recently did that asked me about the future of DT and I talked about "always following your heart and being true to yourself"...sadly I must say that at this particular moment, my heart is not with Dream Theater...and I would simply be "going through the motions", and would honestly NOT be true to myself if I stayed for the sake of obligation without taking the break I felt I needed.
I wish the guys the best and hope the music and legacy we created together is enjoyed by fans for decades to come...I am proud of every album we made, every song we wrote and every show we played....
I'm sorry to all the disappointed DT fans around the world...
I really tried to salvage the situation and make it work...
I honestly just wanted a break (not a split)...but happiness cannot be forced, it needs to come from within....
You DT fans are the greatest fans in the world and as you all know, I have always busted my ass for you guys and I hope that you will stay with me on my future musical journey, wherever it may lead me....(and as you all know my work ethic, there will surely be no shortage of future MP projects!)

Untung saya ingat kalau kita berada di tempat yang jamnya maju sehari lebih cepat dari Amerika, jadi meski kita sekarang sudah tanggal 7 Mei 2009, saya tetap yakin bisa mendownload lagu “A Rite Of Passage” dari album “Black Clouds & Silver Linings” ini. Lumayan gedhe, 18,2 MB, berdurasi 00:08:36, berukuran sebesar itu karena memakai bitrate ‘halus’ 320 kbps. Seperti biasa, kalau buat grup band Indonesia, satu lagu ini bisa jadi 1 album. hehe…

Sayangnya kuping saya kesulitan nangkep liriknya, padahal mau saya tadi langsung saya kupingin biar bisa ngerti apa yang kira-kira menjadi tema lagu dan album baru Dream Theater ini.

Bagi yang juga mau, silahkan klik di gambar di bawah ini, filenya sudah saya kecilkan menjadi sekitar 4 MB, dengan 80 kbps saja. Tapi secara pribadi, saya menganjurkan untuk menabung dulu, supaya nanti begitu album “Black Clouds & Silver Linings” ini keluar kita bisa beli secara legal. Untuk band sebesar Dream Theater, saya kira tidak rugi kalau beli. Kan?

Album Baru Dream Theater: “Black Clouds & Silver Linings"

Disebut sebagai veterannya aliran Metal Progressive, Dream Theater baru-baru ini mengumumkan album baru mereka, “BLACK CLOUDS & SILVER LININGS” Album baru ini adalah album kedua yang digarap bekerjasama dengan Roadrunner Records. Yang pertama “Systematic Chaos” di tahun 2007.
Pihak Roadrunner akan merilis album “BLACK CLOUDS & SILVER LININGS” ini pada 23 Juni 2009. Dalam rilis terbaru itu Roadrunner akan memberikan beberapa versi selain versi standar. Album baru ini juga akan tersedia dalam bentuk vinyl LP, juga akan ada 3-disc Special Edition CD yang berisi full album, sebuah CD instrumental dan juga sebuah CD yang berisi 6 lagu cover version, judulnya baru akan diungkap kemudian.

Selama 6 minggu sebelum peluncuran album baru Dream Theater pada 23 Juni 2009 nanti, Roadrunner akan merilis sebuah lagu cover version per minggunya. Lumayan kan, bisa ngicipi duluan. 6 minggu sebelum 23 Juni 2009, berarti mulai 12 Mei 2009 kita (kalau beruntung sich) bisa mulai berburu… hehe..)

Sekali lagi labum ini masih di produseri oleh Mike Portnoy dan John Petrucci, sementara untuk urusan mixing di pegang oleh Paul Northfield.

Rencananya, pada bulan Juni nanti, Dream Theater akan menggelar tour untuk mendukung albun “BLACK CLOUDS & SILVER LININGS” ini. Di mulai di Eropa, kemudian disusul bulan Juli-Agustus di Amerika.
