Lirik Album A Dramatic Turn of Events | Tanggal 13 September 2011 kemarin album baru Dream Theater – A Dramatic Turn of Events akhirnya benar-benar diluncurkan. Saya sudah mendapatkan seluruh track-nya.
Belum sepenuhnya paham dengan album ini sih, tapi paling tidak Beneath The Surface sudah menjadi lagu wajib yang tiap hari saya dengarkan. Sambil sedikit ikut menyanyi, hehe…
Secara umum album baru Dream Theater ini agak beda. Rasa dari gebukan drum Mike Mangini bagi saya agak gimana gitu, alias tetap berharap seandainya Mike Portnoy yang menggebuk pasti akan berbeda hasilnya.
Hal lain yang saya rasakan adalah effect gitar yang dipakai Petrucci agak lebih ‘clean’ di beberapa lagu. Rasanya seperti dia berusaha memasukkan lebih banyak rasa blues di album ini.

Saat ini saya kira Padi sudah bisa disebut sebagai salah satu band veteran di Indonesia, meski umurnya masih kalah dibanding dengan DEWA 19, Gigi, maupun Slank. Sampai saat ini Padi bisa bertahan awet dengan formasinya. Jika band lain gampang sekali merubah formasinya, tidak begitu yang terjadi dengan Padi. (tentu saja ini opini pribadi saya, hehe …, mohon maap kalau anda tidak sependapat)
Saya kira hampir semua band segenerasi dengan Padi, sedang mengalami masa sulit. Kemunculan banyak sekali band baru yang secara aktif mengikuti kemauan pasar. Jadilah penyetia band-band besar semacam mereka agak terbatas hanya pada yang mengalami dan sempat berperistiwa dengan lagu-lagu mereka dahulu. Meski sebenarnya kehadiran internet sedikit banyak merubah pendapat ini.
Kalau anda amati di situs-situs yang menyediakan link download mp3 yang tiap hari semakin banyak saja jumlahnya, ada beberapa trend yang agak sulit dipungkiri, bahwa: lagu baru yang jadi hit belum tentu bisa mengalahkan lagu lama, dilihat dari jumlah pengunjung yang melakukan download. Bagus kan lirik Tempat Terakhir –nya Padi ini?
Saya agak kesulitan menghafal lirik ini. Seperti halnya lirik lagunya Padi yang lain, mereka pintar sekali menulis lirik lagu dengan menggunakan frase yang mirip-mirip tapi tidak umum dipakai, jadinya ketika otak kita memperkirakan jalannya kalimat itu, hasilnya jadi melenceng, meski sebenarnya tidak mengubah makna kalimatnya.
Selain hal-hal positif di atas, saya menjumpai beberapa ketidaknyamanan pada lirik Tempat Terakhir ini. Beberapa diksinya langsung mengingatkan kita pada lirik lagu-lagunya Padi yang terdahulu, seperti ‘bidadari’ dan ‘bila itu tanpamu’. Penggunaan ungkapan ‘angin di bawah sayapku’ juga mengingatkan saya pada ‘Wind Beneath My Wings’-nya Elton John. Bukan apa-apa, itu ungkapan yang bagus.
